Continuing our articles to highlight the eateries in the charming tropical gardens of The Village, Mick and I visited The Village Lounge. A bijou, picturesque bar/bistro attractively furnished and located to the north of the gardens and accessed by a small Japanese wooden bridge. (Look towards the children’s play area and it is sited just behind).
Comfy sofas and low tables furnish this rustic restaurant. It is sited beside a lake and a mini weir water feature which pleasingly provides the background resonance of a soft bubbling stream. The ambiance is tranquil, pleasing, peaceful and laid-back.
We were welcomed by the efficient Teab who admirably fulfills her role front of house providing a warm and friendly reception on arrival. We ordered a glass of the very acceptable house red wine (B.80) and settled back to read the menu. The wine list is concise but adequate offering a bottle of Furra Argentinian Chardonnay, as wine of the month, for B.550. Beers from B.60 together with a good selection of spirits and cocktails at very competitive prices.
They are open from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm so breakfast dishes are offered for the early birds wishing to sit in this gorgeous garden and enjoy the morning air. The all-day breakfast set is priced at B.160. Omelets are also offered served with mixed salad and French fries. Jacket potatoes, club sandwiches or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on French toast provide nifty snacks. Pies were on the ‘special’ list and featured steak, chicken and mince and onion served with peas, chips and gravy for B.189.
Pasta is always a popular option and here they serve it with garlic and a nut pesto, as a salad with zucchini and Feta cheese, Bolognaise (either baked or as a sauce), and even with chicken green curry for a fusion treat. However, I plumped for spaghetti carbonara (B.135) and Mick chose one of his favourites, fish and chips. I really enjoyed my choice it was an excellent recipe with lashings of bacon, onion, garlic and Parmesan cheese while the other side of the table Mick was tucking into his piece of perfectly fried fish with crunchy chips and garden peas.
When we asked Teab which menu item was the most popular at The Lounge she didn’t hesitate in replying that the Cajun steak with boiled potatoes and vegetables (B.165) and the pork chops were the best sellers. Among the other main courses we spotted were grilled salmon, spicy grilled chicken served in pita bread with a Greek salad and French fries and lots of Thai dishes including another house special of spicy beef salad.
As you can see, this menu offers an imaginative selection of dishes at extremely reasonable prices (not many surpass the B.200 mark) and the ones we tried were professionally executed and presented in just the right portions. The surroundings of The Village Lounge are lovely whether you visit during a bright, sunny day or a romantic star filled evening. Come here to relax in a garden setting and to enjoy the agreeable medley of dishes at most agreeable prices. A venue to gratify your senses and your wallet!
