When Laser Hair Removal was first introduced, the procedure was limited to light skinned individuals with dark hair. Dark skinned individuals could not use these lasers for hair removal because early generation lasers were unable to distinguish between skin pigment and hair follicles, which led to the burning of those with darker skin. Today this has all changed. The introduction of the new laser line, the CoolGlide NdYAG Laser has afforded excellent results for wide range of skin and hair types. Imagine not having to deal with the frequency, expense, and pain of constantly getting rid of unwanted hair. Laser hair removal is the best thing out there for removing unwanted hair. One of the best ways to answer the question “Why Use a Laser?” is by illustrating why not to use other treatments.
• Tweezers, shaving, waxing, and creams usually make your unwanted hair return within few days.
• Electrolysis is too painstaking as it treats one hair follicle at a time. Compared to electrolysis, laser hair removal typically requires fewer treatment sessions, less time per session, and minimal discomfort.
• Oral medications have also successfully treated unwanted hair. But oral medications may not be appropriate for everyone.
Laser treatment can remove hair from almost all areas of the body, including the face, upper lip, bikini line, and neck area.
How does hair growth effect Laser Hair Removal treatments?
Every hair goes through 3 cycles of growth. The hair you can see is either in its active anagen growth cycle (still attached to the hair follicle) or in its inactive cataqen phase (already separated from the follicle). Inactive hair will fall out on its own as it has completed its growth cycle and already disengaged from the follicle. Beneath the surface of the skin are the dormant hair follicles that have not entered a growth cycle. The laser targets the hair you can see, meaning it will remove both the active and inactive hairs. Hair in an active growth cycle will not grow back as the laser will destroy the hair follicle beneath the skin. Inactive hair will be removed; however, it will grow back as the follicle is still intact. As the hair moves through its cycles, repeated sessions are necessary to treat the follicles when they enter the growth phase.
What to expect during the laser hair removal procedure?
During the procedure, laser light will be delivered through a hand-held piece attached to a laser console. Laser treatment itself may cause a slight tingling sensation. Most patients tolerate the procedure well. But because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option. The appearance of the treated area immediately after the laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of treatment and skin type. Immediate after-effects, if any, redness will be visible which disappears in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away.
How many sessions do I need?
The number of session depends on various parameters, including the area of the body treated, skin color, coarseness of hair, and gender.
Since hair grows in several phases, and laser can only affect the currently actively growing follicles, several sessions are needed to kill hair in all phases of growth.
In general, it is necessary to foresee between 3 – 8 treatment sessions.
Coarse dark hair on light skin is easiest to treat. Finer hair and hair on darker skin may require more treatments. Certain areas (notably men’s and women’s faces) may require considerably more treatments to achieve desired results.
What is the interval between each session?
Usually, treatments are spaced 3-12 weeks apart to start, although the spacing depends upon individual’s response to treatment. Instead of following an arbitrary schedule, you should wait until you have experienced shedding of the treated hairs, which should complete in less than a month, and see enough hair come in after the hair-free period to have another treatment. Treatment spacing also depends on area treated as hair cycles vary based on the body part.

LA BRAZILIANA KERATIN
Revolutionary new natural treatment with collagen to get silky hair and stop hair falls!
You like your hair straight, but you’re looking for alternatives to pressing, ironing or relaxing to get that glossy mane you want. Maybe you want to try a keratin treatment, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. Known by several different names, including Brazilian Keratin Treatment (BKT for short, an acronym you’ll often see on various hair forums) and Brazilian straightening treatment, as well as various brand names, this is the newest craze for getting silky straight hair and stop hair falls.
The Labraziliana Keratin defrizzing treatments don’t have the tried-and-true chemicals you’ll find in typical black hair relaxers, such as sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide, or chemicals you’ll find in curling perms like ammonium thioglycolate. Your hair is straightened with the active ingredient keratin, a protein very like one of the components of human hair.
Keratin works to “naturally” straighten the hair. Fans of the treatment claim that it actually strengthens the hair since keratin is so similar to hair’s natural protein.
When to use Keratin absolutely?
Just after hair:
Previously Processed Hair:
Anyone who relaxes her hair knows that some coloring processes are especially harsh on top of already processed hair. You also can’t apply a relaxer to previously relaxed hair without worry of over processing. However, a keratin treatment works well on colored, highlighted or previously processed hair.
Time and Cost:
Expect a keratin treatment to take at least a couple of hours to complete, from beginning to end. The price starts from 5,000 baht to 6,900 baht (depends on the length of your hair) at De Beaute-Paris professional hair salon, located at the 4th floor of Central Festival Pattaya Beach shopping mall. Tel. 038-043-278 or 0822-565-660
A stylist applies a keratin solution to your hair, much as she would hair color. Hair is blown dry and then sealed with extreme temperatures of up to 450 degrees. The hot iron is required to seal the formula into the hair’s cuticle.
How Long it Lasts:
Unlike relaxers and curly perms, a keratin treatment gradually washes away. You’ll notice your hair’s natural curl return over time, anywhere from six weeks to a few months. To get the longest lasting results, use Keratin shampoo, conditioner and serum (sell at De Beaute for 1,800 baht).
What to Expect:
For the first 3 days after the treatment, you won’t be able to wash your hair or get it wet. A secure hair cover while in the shower or bath is essential. During this time period, you also won’t be able to exercise because sweating is out, as is putting any kind of product on your hair. In addition, for these few days, you can’t put your hair into a ponytail, pin it up or even tuck it behind your ears as that will lead to kinks that will stick in your hair. Your hair may be so straight immediately following the treatment that it lacks body, but in time, some volume will return.
As with all hair products or treatments, everyone won’t get the same results. While a great degree of the results depends on the competence of your stylist, much also depends on your hair type. Some women will get super sleek hair that has no wave to it until the treatment begins to wear off. Other women will see a lessening of frizz with no real straightening, unless they use a flat iron when styling. If you’re seeking bone straight locks, you may be disappointed, but if you’re looking for an easier way to manage your hair without worrying about how straight it turns out, a keratin treatment may be for you.
La braziliana Keratin used at De Beaute is formaldehyde-free (different from la Brazilian Keratin). If you’re pregnant or nursing, you can have a keratin treatment.
