You’re probably familiar with the snazzy panoramic Red Sky which crowns the largest lifestyle destination in Bangkok. But Centara has taken one of the trendiest locations in Bangkok and taken it to new heights of deluxe living with the CRU Champagne Bar. Take the soaring lift to the 23rd  floor, change lifts to ascend to the 55th floor, then take the stairs to the 56th floor, and finally step into the exclusive glass elevator which will whisk you to your “haute” destination on the 59th floor. The circular raised bar greets on arrival staffed by some of the capital’s top mixologists, the décor is snowy white with contemporary lounge seating and a breezy al fresco ambiance dominated by a huge illuminated arch that changes hues as the night moves on. With its 360-degree panorama it delivers new heights of pizzazz for fizz fanatics and the hottest unique creations for the cocktailagencia.

The charismatic executive assistant manager ic/Food & Beverage of Centara Grand at CentralWorld, David Nowak, told us that CRU is the only bar in Thailand to serve GH Mumm’s No. 1 Pink, the limited edition Rose crafted by Didier Mariotti Maison Mumm’s cellar master. La Vie en Rose was our initial Champagne cocktail tipple. Pointed bubbly glasses of Mumm’s finest pink were held in a vice of ice cubes accompanied by raspberry and pure juice of strawberry plus a phial of Absolut Vodka for bespoke cocktails. Not too much sweetness for me, just the pure, virgin originality of the fruit and flora finish to savour this most exquisite Champagne.

The Rose blend is dominated by Pinot Noir and is rounded off by the fruitiness of Meunier to reveal the full subtlety and elegance of Chardonnay. Mick enjoyed several drops of Absolut and just a tear of the strawberry to declare it sensational. Paired with a portion of lobster, crab and corn fritters with delicious aioli for dunking, the marriage was hi-so indeed. If you really want to push the gin palace out – a bottle of Mumm’s limited edition Rose will set you back B.4,800 but what an evening to remember that would be. Expect to pay B.999 by the glass. Bollinger and Taittinger vintages are also readily available for celebrating in style.

Premium Russian caviar sells itself in the rarified air here, never are such friends made more quickly and more firmly than Champagne and caviar. Foie gras and chicken yakitori skewers are bestsellers at B.388, while the cheese platter with figs, grapes and walnuts is a delight highlighting only the very best imported cheeses. Or why not order the assorted Joselito cured meats with cheese to share around the table for only B.740? Oysters naturally are a marriage made in bubbly heaven while the Peking duck steamed buns have their fans pairing chef’s penchant for Southeast Asian twists and the innovative CRU cocktails. Champagne is such an amiable companion it lends itself to sweet or savoury, don’t climb down from your CRU perch without tasting the rich chocolate mousse with chocolate soil and mint. Top up your flute and float away on an excess of the luxe life.

CRU opens at 5 pm (till 1 am) so a long, evening with the joy of a scarlet sunset to initiate the proceedings and great music and Champagne to follow.
