Following reports of a shooting incident at the Sabai Empress Hotel in North Pattaya, Police officers quickly made their way to the scene, where after observing CCTV footage, the officers arrested Australian national Talaat Majed Hawatt, aged 21.
Locating the highly intoxicated individual, who was still on the premises, and was apparently on holiday visiting his uncle, Mr. Rodney, who had been staying at the hotel for some time, Mr. Hawatt was still in possession of a Mouser 6.35 mm pistol with four live rounds when he was apprehended by the officers.
Police officers inspected Mr. Rodney’s room and two bullet holes were discovered in the front door, which Mr. Hawatt had shot at in an intoxicate rage. Mr. Rodney explained to the officers that his nephew had gone out drinking, upon his return, and very drunk, Mr. Rodney refused him admittance as he did not want any more trouble, however, Mr. Hawatt produced the gun and started shooting at the front door.
Mr. Rodney had no idea where his nephew had acquired the gun, however, police officers believe he had bought it from a Thai dealer. Resisting arrest and continuing to be obnoxious to the police and his uncle, Mr. Hawatt, was remanded in custody and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm in public.
