At the recent 25th High Level Thai – Malaysian Committee Meeting it was decided to form a working committee to plan a mixed military training program and look at solutions for combating the unrest in the south of the country.

General Songkitti Jakkabatara, Chief of Defense Forces of Thailand, and General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Azizan Bin Haji Ariffin, Chief of Defense Forces of Malaysia, explained that an agreement had been made between their respective countries governments on border cooperation. It is hoped that this will greatly improve the relationship between the two countries at all levels, and also offer support and promote activities on the south Thailand and north Malaysian border. General Songkitti Jakkabatara further explained that the two countries would form a working committee to undertake a joint military training program which will involve the Navy, Army and Air Force from both countries. They have also agreed to revise the 18th May 2000 agreement on border cooperation to bring it more up to date.
