The Pattaya Business and Tourism Association (PBTA) recently held a meeting at the Green Park Resort in Naklua to discuss submitting a bid to host the World Expo 2020. The World Expo is a global, non commercial event, and once the application is submitted, the PBTA will have to wait for a decision from the International World Expo Committee.

The World Expo is staged to promote the exchange of ideas and developments on subjects including the world economy, culture, science and technology, etc. and give centre stage to exhibitors to display and publicise their achievements, and also to improve international relationships.

The World Expo with a 150 year history is regarded as the Olympic Games for the economy and Science and Technology.

However, it is far from a ‘done deal’, as Pattaya will face competition from a further 15 cities around the world who also want desperately to hold this very prestigious event. The PBTA believes that with the existing infrastructure, Pattaya is the ideal location to cope with the thousands who will attend the event.
