Flood Death Toll in Northeast, Central Thailand Now 107

THE death toll from the flooding which has hit many province in the North, Northeast, East and Central provinces have risen to 107, official report says on Wednesday.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Wednesday afternoon said more than 5.9 million people have been affected by the disaster. Three more people had died on Tuesday from the flooding, increasing the fatality toll to 107 from 104 reported Tuesday.

However, floodwaters had now receded in 19 provinces.

The department said torrential rains since Monday caused by a depression in the Gulf of Thailand triggered flash floods in 10 southern provinces – Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Songkhla, Satun, Trang, Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani and Phatthalung.

The death toll did not include fatalities in the southern provinces, which are being hard hit by flash flood as the department has to wait for confirmed figures, he said.
