Around 100 ladies of the Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC), held a pre Songkran luncheon meeting at the beautiful conference room setting within the grounds of the Montien Hotel in Central Pattaya. There was a very interesting talk by the guest speaker Khun Chatnakorn “Chat” Ongkasing from Bangkok, who is one of the few women to have a 7-month stay as a monk in a large Buddhist Temple in Myanmar.

Before the buffet dinner was served, the ladies conducted their own traditional Songkran ceremony, with some of the ladies pouring water over a bronze Buddha statue that had been beautifully decorated with flowers. This was done with great reverence by both the Thai and Western ladies, and it is a pity that the ancient traditions, culture and customs of Songkran have given way to modern materialism.
