Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts appointed one of Thailand’s leading culinary figures, Asker Skaarup Bay, as executive chef of Mövenpick Siam Hotel Pattaya.
The 262-room property opened last month, delivering the first five-star hospitality experience on pristine Na Jomtien Beach. It is a statement in elite beachfront accommodation, gourmet cuisine and superb destination choices such as yachting and island exploration.
Chef Asker will oversee four restaurants and bars including Twist, an all-day dining venue, T55, a grill room with great steaks inspired by New York’s Meatpacking District, the pool bar and a lobby lounge.
“Chef Asker is a great team leader who has worked extensively in five-star hotels globally for over two decades,” said Andrew Langdon, Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts senior vice president Asia. “He has a great knowledge of Thailand and its cuisine, as you would expect from someone who has been an executive chef at some of the best hotels in Thailand and around the region.”
Known for his grace under pressure, patience and motivational skills, Danish national Skaarup Bay has enhanced his knowledge and expertise through continual exposure to many new cuisines.
He has tantalised the most refined palates at famed restaurants and hotels such as Quo Vadis restaurant in London, Restaurant Mosaic at The Westin Sydney, Jumeirah Beach Hotel Dubai, Shangri-La Bangkok, and The Leela Hotel and Resort Goa.
Skaarup Bay’s luxury executive chef assignments in Thailand include Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok; Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas at Krabi; Pimalai Resort and Spa at Koh Lanta, Krabi; The Village Coconut Island, Phuket, and Radisson Blu Plaza in Bangkok, his previous position prior to joining Mövenpick.
“It’s a great privilege to be chosen to shape the dining experience from the start at a new world-class hotel,” Skaarup Bay said. “We are the first real five-star experience at Na Jomtien, which is a lovely beach, a stone’s throw from Ocean Marina and the yachting and sailing community.”
