10 Gambling Thais arrested in police raid on Phattalung cockfight stadium

Police arrested 10 of about 100 gamblers earlier this week during a raid on a cockfight stadium in the Muang district of Phattalung.

Meanwhile, those arrested were charged with illegal gambling and participating in activities that could spread Covid-19. The officers also seized roosters, money and equipment as evidence.

The majority of the gamblers fled into the fields and made their way to their cars, escaping the police with screeching tires.

The cockfight stadium had been in use for a while and while it doesn’t open every day for cockfights, at least 100 gamblers show up daily to place bets.

The stadium reportedly generated at least 1 million baht daily, of which 300,000 baht reportedly comes from live streaming of cockfights through the Line application, as streamers have to pay 5,000 baht per camera.
