The Thai magazine “Manager Online” published figures from the Thai Tourism Authority suggesting that in the first month of Phuket’s acclaimed “Sandbox project” 14,055 foreign tourists had visited the resort island and spent 800 million baht.
The Thai wanderlust would represent a third of the total number of visitors listed as part of that number
Last Saturday, seven flights arrived with a total of 773 passengers. This brings the total for July since the opening on July 1 to 14,055. 32 of them tested positive for Covid19 virus.
A total of 309,719 nights in SHA+ hotels were booked on the Shaba website from July to September.
The media reported that TAT noticed a slowdown in bookings in August as the Thailand pandemic continued.
In the list of most visitors to the program, the following nationalities were listed first, in order of most:
1. Americans
2. Israelis
3. Thai people
4. Englishmen
5. Germans
6. French
Airlines that provide services include THAI, Emirates, Ethihad, Singapore and Qatar Airlines.
The average spend of each tourist, excluding airfare, was 5,400 baht per day.
These numbers were lower than the average pre-pandemic tourist spending, as Phuket was actually so little open and tourists had few options to spend their money.
