A minor earthquake, estimated at 3.9 magnitude on the Richter scale, shook Muang district of the north-eastern province of Loei this afternoon (Wednesday).

Many residents in Tambons Na Or, Kok Too, Na Suey and Chaipruek felt the vibrations at 12.36 pm, but there are no reports of property damage.

The Thai Mineral Resources Department said that the epicentre of the tremor was located about five kilometres under Muang district and is believed to be have been caused by the movement of a minor fault line, part of the Phetchabun fault, or could have been from a new fault line linked with the fault line in Laos.

The minor quake was, however, the most severe in the last five years.
