After a short search, 6 European tourists who tested positive for the Covid19 virus and left their hotel have now all been located and taken to hospital. Authorities arrested 2 French tourists, 2 Polish tourists, a Swiss and a Norwegian tourist.

The 6 tourists had all come to Thailand with the now-suspended Test & Go programme, they arrived between December 26 and 29 and initially tested negative for Covid-19 on arrival. Entering the holiday island of Koh Chang, they took a second test on January 4.

The group of 6 tourists had reportedly left to explore the island while awaiting their test results, but when tests returned on Friday with a positive diagnosis, none of the travellers could be found. Authorities were unsure whether the tourists knew they had a virus or not and an immediate search was made to find them.

The two French travellers, both 32 years old, were located at the Klong Prao Resort, while the two Polish tourists, aged 65 and 51, were found at the Tranquility Bay Residence. Finally, the 38-year-old Norwegian traveller was found in the Carpe Diem Guesthouse and the 31-year-old Swiss man in the Casa.

All tourists reported to the police that they did not want to flee without test results and did not know that they were at risk of contamination or Covid19. Test results may have been delayed because Koh Chang has only one hospital, which is struggling to keep up with demand, especially over the New Year holidays when the island was overrun with tourists.

The tourists have been brought to the mainland for treatment at the Bangkok Hospital.

It is important for you as a guest in Thailand to know that the measures and developments regarding the Covid19 virus (can) change at any moment, don’t blame your news bear if he does not report the changes in time.
