6-year-old boy quarantined at home alone after mother and sister are hospitalized
The six-year-old son of a Laotian housekeeper lives alone in their home after his mother and sister became infected with Covid19 and hospitalized in Udon Thani last week.
The mother was the 96th patient in Udon Thani and was hospitalized on April 16, while the boy’s sister was hospitalized the next day. Since then the boy has lived alone. Although the boy has been tested negative, he must be quarantined in the house because he is seen as a risky close contact. He will take his second test on April 20.
Initially, health workers at Klingkahm Hospital, the village chief and health volunteers organized shifts to care for the boy by guarding the front of the house, inquiring about his condition, and conversing with him through the fence.
The boy’s morale is reportedly good and he talks to the officers, although he accepts that he is afraid to stay in the house alone when the lights are out.
