A defence volunteer and three civilians, including a young child, were injured last night when gunmen opened fire and threw a bomb at a checkpoint in Sungai Padi district.
The attack took place around 7:30 p.m. on Jarusathian Road in Tambon Paluru, said Captain Theerapong Phimpha, deputy. Chief Investigator at Sungai Padi Police Station.
The attackers first fired many shots at the road checkpoint and then threw a grenade inside, injuring four people, including a one-year-old girl.
The injured were defence volunteer Manawee Kotae, 37, and three local residents Chalermphol Phuenpa and Phattrawadee Phromchuen, 37, and her young daughter Varida.
The police have accused southern insurgents of this cowardly act.
