On TikTok it is not easy to do something strange, given the countless crazy trends that have already come along. However, the videos with the hashtag #iudremoval are quite striking. In addition, women share how they pull out their own contraceptive IUD.
IN 2 MINUTES
The first person to remove her IUD on TikTok was American Mikkie Gallagher. In the video she shares her surprise at how easily she fishes the thing out of her vagina by the strings. “This is NOT medical advice, but it only took 2 minutes.” Her TikTok has been viewed millions of times and many women comment that they have done the same. “It was more exciting than it was painful or difficult,” it sounds in the comments.

NOT SAFE
Many women have since followed Mikkie’s example. Why? For example, they are done with the side effects of the contraceptive and do not feel like an (expensive) doctor’s appointment to have the thing removed. But things don’t always go as smoothly as with Mikkie.
@sarah.niermann 4. I didn’t want to pay someone $300 to do it for me 😂 #mom #momlife #iud #iudremoval #diyiudremoval

Most doctors therefore do not think it is a good idea to get rid of your IUD yourself without the right knowledge and equipment and advise against this. It can cause bleeding and damage to your uterus or even a uterine prolapse. “It’s better to do it in a controlled environment ,” Dr Bachmann told Today, for example. “If we take it out in practice, everything can be visualized instead of doing it blind at home.”
