Thai medic Dr Chalermchai Boonyaleephan, vice-chairman of the Public Health Commission, said yesterday that the kingdom of Thailand should not reopen until December 15, so as to maintain momentum between protecting public health and reviving the economy can be maintained.
In a post on the Blockdit platform, he said that every country must find a balance between economics and public health, and a key criterion in doing so is to ensure that at least 70 per cent of the population is vaccinated.
“To get to that point, we need to accelerate the vaccine rollout to ensure that 70 per cent of the population has received a double vaccination by Nov. 30,” he said.
“After that, it will take another 14 days for the immunity to take effect, so Thailand should be ready to reopen on December 15.”
He added that everyone’s opinion on when Thailand should reopen is different, as the impact on each individual is different.
