BANGKOK — A group of unidentified men assaulted pro-democracy campaigner Sirawith “Ja New” Seritiwat on a street in northeast Bangkok today, his mother said.

The 27-year-old was being brought to Nawamin Hospital as of publication time. Sirawith’s mother said the activist was struck by four men wielding wooden sticks in Soi Phraya Suren 2, in Bangkok’s Khan Na Yao district.

The incident came after a similar physical assault on June 2, when Sirawith was beaten close to a court in downtown Bangkok. The perpetrators were never caught.
