The controversial Netflix hit Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is getting a sequel. The series will be expanded with two new seasons in which two other ‘monsters’ will take center stage. That reports The Hollywood Reporter. It is not yet known who they are and whether they are again serial killers.

Although the series about Jeffrey Dahmer received a lot of criticism, the episodes have been watched very well. The title became the second most-watched English-language series on Netflix in its first four weeks. On November 1, the number of hours viewed worldwide stood at 934 million. Only Squid Game and Stranger Things 4 fared better.

Now Netflix has ordered two new seasons of Monster from writers Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Those will again feature stories of “monstrous figures who had a major impact on society”. Murphy’s thriller series The Watcher is also getting a sequel season. He previously had success with American Crime Story and American Horror Story . In the latter title, Dahmer actor Evan Peters also played a major role.

The first Monster season, released on September 21, tells the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, aka “the Milwaukee cannibal,” who brutally abused and murdered 17 young men between 1978 and 1991. The series shows, among other things, how he ‘collected’ his victims, and then murder, mutilate and partly eat them. The failure of the police is also discussed. Thanks to his white privilege as a white man, Dahmer was able to go about his business for years. The police often took his side and reports of black witnesses were not taken seriously.

The series about Jeffrey Dahmer attracts a huge number of viewers but also gets a lot of commentaries. For example, Netflix is accused of simply wanting to make money from the trauma of the victims and relatives. For example, the serial killer would be too much romanticized, while the victims, mostly men of color, would not be put away respectfully enough. Moreover, many relatives of the victims do not support the series. They indicate that they were not informed of the filming plans.
