What was supposed to be a successful comeback in Las Vegas ended in a disappointment for Jairzinho Rozenstruik on Saturday evening. At the UFC 56, the MMA fighter lost to Alexander Volkov.
The fight didn’t last long. The match was stopped after two minutes and about forty seconds by arbiter Herb Dean. Jairzinho suffered some serious blows midway through the first lap, forcing Herb to stop the fight.
Jairzinho visibly disagreed with the arbiter’s action. There is a lot of discussion about the procedure online. Some think Jairzinho was still relatively stable on his feet, others think Herb is right.

Volkov is 7 feet tall, and was in the middle of throwing hard punches in a finishing sequence as Rozenstruik bounce and flop all around the cage! How else is he suppose to be? My initial reaction was that it was stopped early. But I don’t know if I was influenced by how Rozenstruik walked away seemingly okay. It would be disappointing if every fight was stopped like that. You’d instantly lose all the classics.
