The Ukrainian government has reported war crimes committed by Russian troops. In Bucha, a suburb of Kiev, there was said to have been a “deliberate massacre”.
Human Rights Watch has also reported possible war crimes. Dmytro Koeleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister, says the Russians want to get rid of as many Ukrainians as possible. The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, speaks of a “genocide”. According to Anatoli Fyodoruk, the mayor of Bucha, at least 280 bodies have been found in the city. It would concern civilians who were murdered by Russian occupiers. Some were clearly dead for many days, if not weeks.
Russia has not yet responded to the accusation. Charles Michel, the president of the European Council, has responded. He wants more sanctions against Russia, especially after the atrocities that took place in Bucha.
This is #Bucha. The outskirt of #Kyiv. Russians were killing people with their hands tied behind their backs and left the bodies near the road. I am shaking. #StopPutinNOW pic.twitter.com/ffzUV8d5xo
