ASQ hotel scam: Thai woman allegedly sold fake quarantine package for 35,000 baht

A Thai woman in Chonburi was arrested for allegedly posting a fake advertisement for an Alternative State Quarantine Hotel and allegedly selling the fake package worth 35,000 baht to a foreign tourist who was planning to travel to Thailand.

An African woman, who was preparing for a trip to Thailand with her son, reported the alleged scam to the Thai immigration office. The woman says she paid for the hotel room in full to a woman who claimed to be the hotel manager and was subsequently unable to reach the ‘manager’. According to reports, she later realized that the hotel was not a certified ASQ facility at all.

The Thai woman, named as Amy in the police report, also had a warrant for her arrest in Ayutthaya for alleged fraud. Immigration police arrested Amy yesterday in the main district of Chonburi. The newspaper article does not go into detail about the previous charges, but police stated that Amy admitted to being part of a crime network and was paid 1,000 baht a day for the scam.
