Australian in Southern Thailand arrested for involvement in transnational crimes

Earlier this week, an Australian man was arrested in this southern province by members of the Thai armed forces on suspicion of involvement in cross-border crime in Phuket.

The 47-year-old was driving a Toyota sedan registered in Bangkok. During his search, a passport with a visa that expired more than a year ago was found:

The officers suspect the Australian is involved in the drug trade and entertainment industry in Phuket. He is accused of referring Thai women to foreigners associated with a transnational criminal gang in Phuket. About three months ago, he rented a car from a shop in Phuket that also provided him with a fake driver’s license. The Australian then moved to Nakhon Si Thammarat. He had stayed in four different hotels for the past three months. He was initially arrested for overstaying his visa, while the investigation into his suspected criminal activities continued.
