Last night, a member of the Bangkok riot police was shot in the head during a clash with anti-government protesters in Soi Ton Pho near Din Daeng Flat in Din Daeng district.

“The injured officer was sent to the police hospital. His condition is still critical,” the deputy said. Royal Thai Police spokesman General Krisana Pattanacharoen announced this Thursday morning.

General Krisana added that protesters had gathered near Din Daeng Flat in Soi Mitmaitree 2 last night around 8 p.m. while riot police had been deployed around the areas to keep the situation under control.

“The protesters regularly threw fireworks and ping-pong bombs at police officers until around midnight, when several shots were heard in Soi Ton Pho, after which one officer was shot,” he said. “After the injured officer was sent to hospital, riot police arrested 16 protesters and seized various weapons, including fireworks, ping pong bombs, improvised explosive devices and catapults.”

“For your own safety, do not leave your home at night as the curfew is still in effect during emergencies,” Krisana warned.
