Bangkok sets safety guidelines for new year countdown

Must read

Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang has issued an announcement with guidelines for participants and organizers of countdown events for the new year.

The guidelines are:
1. The lighting of fireworks or lanterns or similar objects is prohibited. An exception to this is a written permit from the director of a district office. Violators can be fined up to 60,000 baht or jailed for 3 years, or both.

2. Owners or operators of establishments serving as New Year’s countdown locations shall ensure that their fire prevention equipment, fire alarm systems and emergency power systems are functional. They must also have fire escape routes, draw up a map and organize regular fire drills.

  1. Establishments must maintain social distancing practices and ensure proper ventilation in buildings. They are advised to use fire-retardant material for decoration and furniture and to avoid events in the vicinity where combustible materials are stored.

Spectators are advised to exercise caution and strictly adhere to the Health Ministry’s disease control measures to avoid contracting Covid-19.

To report a fire, call hotline 199 or contact the nearest city district office.
