Breathing is dangerous in Bangkok and four other provinces in Thailand

Air pollution in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son reached unsafe levels yesterday, the Air Pollution Control Center reported.

Thailand’s standard for safe levels of PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter) is 50 micrograms per cubic meter (μg / m3), although the World Health Organization sets it at 25 μg / m3.

Here is an overview of the cubic meter readings in different parts of Thailand:

• North: 23-113 μg / m3

• Northeast: 18-37 μg / m3

• Central region and West: 17-45 μg / m3

• East: 12-34 μg / m3 • South: 8-28 μg / m3

• Bangkok and surroundings: 33-73 μg / m3

Meanwhile, Bangkok’s Air Quality and Noise Management Department announced that air quality in 10 districts of Bangkok was unsafe.

Samut Sakhon’s Muang district topped the list with 73 μg / m3, followed by Bangkok Yai (61 μg / m3) and Taling Chan districts (60 μg / m3).

PM2.5 situation can be tracked on Air4Thai.com and bangkokairquality.com or through Air4Thai and AirBKK smartphone applications.
