Eight passengers were killed and two others injured last Saturday morning when their van taking them to earn money in temples crashed, police said.
Colonel Preecha Kengsarikit, chief of police of the Khon Kaen Main District Police Station, said the van with a license plate from Nakhon Phanom ran off the perimeter road in Tambon Phra Lap in Khon Kaen’s main district.
The vehicle, carrying nine women and the driver, left Nakhon Phanom around 11 p.m. the night before and was on its way to Chaiyaphum province for earnings at nine temples, the chief commissioner said.
Six women died on the spot and two later succumbed to their injuries. They were all over 60 years old. The driver and a nine-year-old girl were injured. They were taken to Khon Kaen hospital.
Police suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel. He will be questioned as soon as his condition improves.
