Chris Rock turns down offer to host Oscars next year due to Will Smith blow

Must read

If it’s up to Chris Rock, you shouldn’t expect the comedian at the Oscars ceremony for the time being. The comedian was asked by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to present the event again next year, but Chris Rock is said to have turned down the offer, Arizona Central reports.

Chris Rock gave a performance last Sunday in the American city of Phoenix, where he is said to have said he saw no point in presenting the award show again next year after Will Smith punched him in the face during the awards ceremony. According to Arizona Central, Rock likened a return to the Oscars to a return to a crime scene.

He also spoke briefly about the Oscar incident during the sold-out show. About that, Rock said that the blow he received from Will Smith hurt. “He’s bigger than me. The state of Nevada would never condone a fight between me and Will Smith,” Rock said.

At the 94th Oscars ceremony, Chris Rock joked that her hairdo made Jada Pinkett-Smith the perfect lead actress for a sequel to GI Jane. In the 1997 film, actress Demi Moore shaved her head to play the role of GI Jane. The joke went wrong with Will Smith, as his wife suffers from the condition alopecia and therefore struggles with hair loss. After the joke, he walked on stage and punched the Oscar host in the face.

Last month, Will Smith again apologized to Chris Rock in a video. In the video, in which he answers questions from fans, a fan asks why he didn’t immediately after the incident. “I wasn’t quite there anymore. It’s all blurry.” He later contacted the comedian, but he said he was not ready to talk about the much-discussed event. “The message I got back was that he’s not ready to talk. If he is, he would let me know. So I want to say to you, Chris, that I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable and I’ll be here when you’re ready to talk.”
