A construction contractor turned himself into police yesterday (July 1) after opening fire with what was described as a prop gun while driving on the Jomtien Beach Road last week

Yesterday (June 1), 33-year-old Chatchai Leelaiset, a construction contractor, surrendered with the gun to Pattaya Police Department.

The surrender came after police launched a CCTV investigation, in which they were eventually able to identify the suspect and contact him, asking them to report to the station before being forced to track him down.

Chatchai reportedly admitted to police: “This weapon only fires blanks and has no real bullets. It is mostly used for movies and shows.”

“Last week I had looked too deep into the glass and got tired after we finished our construction work because we had a drink on the construction site. I didn’t mean to seriously threaten anyone with the gun, it was just a joke, I’m very sorry,” Chatchai said.

The Pattaya police couldn’t see the humour in it because the shots had terrified people and took place only a few hundred meters from the police station.

Police released a reconstruction of the crime yesterday. Chatchai is accused of opening fire in public with a firearm for no reason.
