Court removes Prayuth Chan-ocha as prime minister

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha was removed from office by the Constitutional Court today August 24, 2022

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan became interim prime minister after the Constitutional Court on Wednesday removed General Prayut Chan-ocha from office.

As first deputy prime minister, Prawit automatically became acting prime minister after Prayut’s ouster.

Earlier, the court voted 5-4 to accept the opposition’s petition on whether General Prayuth’s term expires on Wednesday, August 24. The court also granted a motion to remove Chan-Ochi from office pending a ruling.

Prawit will serve as interim prime minister in Thailand, and Prayuth will continue as defense minister if the court removes him as prime minister.
