An 80-year-old American man was found dead last night in a Pattaya flat with a bag over his head, Pattaya police are investigating.
The man was found at his apartment on Soi 27 in central Pattaya at 6:30 PM, Colonel Puttharak Sonkhamhan, chief of Pattaya Police Department.
The deceased, whose name has been withheld pending contact with the embassy and family, was found by a 41-year-old condominium worker, Mam Worawut, who came to check on him.
According to Worawut, the deceased had not been seen recently, which was unusual for him and he did not respond to knocks on his door or constant phone calls. She entered the room out of concern for his health and found him dead with a plastic bag over his head.
Colonel Puttharak stated that the safe in the room was open, but nothing appeared to have been disrupted and there were no signs of a physical altercation. Pattaya Police will examine CCTV footage to see if anyone else had entered or exited the room before the victim’s death.
However, at present, Pattaya police are tending to list death by suicide as the suspected cause of death but that has not been definitively established yet.
We will provide further updates as and when provided by relevant authorities.
