In the night from Friday to Saturday, a person was killed during the Spanish Medusa festival. At least 40 others were injured. The cause of this is a heavy sandstorm that raged over the festival site. Due to the strong gusts of wind, parts of the decor and stages had come loose.

The music festival takes place every year on the city beach of Cullera, south of Valencia. Around 4 a.m., the wind strength increased strongly here. The gusts of wind caused parts of several stages to collapse. A 22-year-old man was killed by the falling set pieces. Another 40 others were injured. Three of these are in bad shape. They were taken to a hospital near the coastal town, El País reports.

According to meteorologists, the wind gusts reached speeds of about 80 kilometers per hour. More strong winds are expected later today.

The multi-day Medusa Festival started on Wednesday and was due to end on Sunday. The organization of the dance festival reports that a total of about 320,000 visitors were expected this year. The festival site was evacuated after the accident. It is still unclear whether the festival will resume because the safety of the visitors cannot be guaranteed due to the bad weather.
