Agents from the Samranrat police station and volunteers from the Ruamkatanya Foundation the day before yesterday arrested a 59-year-old man who allegedly tried to set fire to the democracy monument in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon neighborhood.
A volunteer from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation stated that the man parked his pickup truck near the monument, poured gasoline on the base of the monument and started a fire.
Since the man was reportedly suffering from depression, the police decided to contact his relatives to take him to a psychiatric hospital.
According to the police report, the incident was not related to the political situation in the country.
