A soon-to-be doctor donates part of his liver to save his primary school teacher

Doctor Donates: KUANTAN, Malaysia – A medical graduate on housemanship has given his primary school teacher a new lease of life by donating 67% of his liver to save the teacher. Transplant operation performed in Singapore. Both donor and recipient are doing well.

 

Chen Ze Rong, A doctor-to-be who is currently on housemanship donates 67 % of his liver to save his primary school teacher.

The 25-year-old graduate of a medical school is a student of Kong Min Chinese primary school in Kuantan. He was taught by science teacher Liang Feng Pin. Liang’s only daughter Zheng Zi Jing is also Chen’s classmate when both were in year five.

After knowing Liang was facing liver problem and needed to undergo liver transplant, Chen became the donor without hesitation.

A posting by Nanyang Siang Pau Medical Foundation on Facebook said Chen’s jaundice reading was slightly high. Situation would improve once the liver starts to grow.

“Chen is breathing on his own without relying on oxygen. He can sit on the bed but unable to skip pain. He should be able to discharge from hospital in a week’s time.”

Blood test result showed Chen’s liver is functioning in Liang’s body.

“This means no rejection after transplant. Liang currently is undergoing dialysis treatment until her condition is stabilised.”

If Liang’s condition is stable, she can be discharged one month later. The first six month is the most critical period for her.

Zheng said the mother is currently relying on breathing machine but doctors said her condition is good.  Apart from companying her mother, Zheng also visited Chen in the ward.

On the night after the transplant surgery was completed, Zheng wrote on her Facebook to thank her good friend.

She touched on her close relationship with the mother and friendship with Chen after discovering the power of love in life.

She said Chen does not only give her mother love but a miracle for her. The donation has led her feel that life is full of hope.

“The support of Chen and his family finally let me realise that love does not only confine within family. Love is everywhere if one is genuine. “

She said her primary school mate is friendly and down to earth. Their friendship has blossomed due to a group of common friends. When they turned up gathering for the last time, Chen was still asking her about her mother’s blood group.

“I have never thought he would be willing to go this far to be the one who saves my mother’s life.”
