Dozens killed as mosque bombed in northwest Pakistan
More than 30 people have been killed in an attack on a mosque in the Pakistani city of Peshawar. The authorities expect the number of victims to rise even further, NOS reports.
The violence started outside the mosque when two gunmen got into a shootout with police. A police officer was killed. One of the men also did not survive the confrontation. The other man then allegedly ran into the Shia mosque and detonated a bomb.

About 150 people were in the mosque for Friday prayers at the time of the blast. Dozens of injured people were taken to hospital. Most of them have suffered serious injuries and are in life-threatening conditions.

It is not yet clear which group is responsible for the attack. Previously, such attacks in the region against Shia targets were claimed by the Islamic State or a Pakistani branch of the Taliban. Peshawar is the capital of Pakistan and is located on the border with Afghanistan.
