Domestic tourists, residents and business people on Walking Street and Beach Road have contacted the City Council about what they believe is a dramatic increase in beggars and homeless people sleeping in the city.
There are many children among the beggars who sell flowers and sweets to tourists and do not wear nose and mouth protection.
According to media reports, many girls and boys from neighboring countries in Pattaya are said to be begging. In recent years, police officers and social workers have often taken children off the streets.
Business people are urging police and city authorities to take action, as the high number of beggars and homeless people negatively affects the tourism image.
