Elon Musk Wants To Unban Donald Trump From Twitter
If it’s up to Elon Musk, Donald Trump may return to Twitter once the takeover of the social media company is complete. According to the Tesla founder, banning the former president of the United States from Twitter was a mistake.
According to Musk, permanently banning people from Twitter is counterproductive. In this way, it would ensure that people gain less trust in the platform. “I think it was a mistake because it affected a lot of America and ultimately it didn’t make Trump lose his influence,” Musk said in an interview with the Financial Times.
Trump was banned from Twitter for 12 hours early last year for not taking enough distance from the storming of the Capitol. Shortly thereafter, he ran into trouble again with two tweets announcing not to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration, praising his supporters. That was enough reason for Twitter to permanently block his account.

At the end of April, it was announced that Musk had paid no less than 44 billion dollars for the takeover of Twitter. In a tweet, he indicated that he sees Twitter as an important tool for freedom of expression. He also indicates that he wants to make Twitter “better than ever” with all kinds of new functions. For example, he wants to make Twitter’s algorithms ‘open source’, so that users can tinker with Twitter themselves.
