Fierce fire burns house in Pan Thong neighbourhood of Chonburi, residents narrowly escaped

Seven people, including elderly residents and children, managed to escape from their homes in a house fire in Pan Thong district just before last weekend.

Pan Thong police were notified just after midnight of the fire of fearful local residents at a house at the back of a Buddhist temple in Bang Nang.

The fire department with several fire engines found that the fire was raging in the half cement and half-timber house, with smoke billowing into the night sky and attracting a large crowd of concerned neighbours, monks and villagers.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control. The house was completely destroyed by the fire, but fortunately, no one was injured or killed.

Phonpan Sinsap, 35, a resident of the house, told a local reporter: “We slept in the house. I heard someone (a relative) shouting that the house was on fire. I smelled something on fire and gathered my family to escape. In total, seven of us lived in this house. Miraculously, none of my family was injured, but the cost of the damage has yet to be estimated.”

Police are continuing their investigation to find the cause of the fire and the family has been helped to find temporary housing and support.
