With Faiq Bolkiah, Chonburi FC has recruited by far the richest footballer in the world, who has more money than Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo combined but was unemployed until shortly before his premiere in the Thai league after his contract with CS Maritimo expired that could be dissolved last week.
In any case, Faiq never joined the Portuguese, who has a career at the academies of Southampton, Chelsea and Leicester. His fortune, estimated at 15 billion Swiss francs, was not made during his football career, but as a member of Brunei’s royal family.
Despite Faiq’s rather unsuccessful kicker career, Chonburi FC confirmed in a press release that he was recruited “because of his quality and not because of his money”.
