Foreign worker injured in explosion at a shop in Pattaya Thursday morning

A Laotian worker was injured early Thursday morning in an explosion at a grocery store in Pattaya. The incident took place around 5:50 a.m. at a shop preparing khao moo daeng (rice with barbecued red pork), khao man kai (steamed rice with chicken) with noodles in the Nongprue community.

The explosion caused a side wall of the building to collapse and the roof to collapse. Khith Lovanxay, 29, a worker from Laos, was found under the rubble with serious injuries. He was admitted to a nearby hospital.

The explosion also caused damage to neighboring stores. The full extent of the damage was assessed. Officials from the Pattaya City Disaster Relief Bureau investigated the damage. They said the explosion did not come from a gas cylinder, as originally thought. The real cause is still under investigation by the forensic police.
