Gangsta’s Paradise rapper Coolio dies aged 59

Coolio passed away yesterday at the age of 59. The American rapper’s manager has confirmed this to TMZ. He died at a friend’s house in Los Angeles, where he was found dead in the bathroom.

The friend Coolio was visiting found the rapper unresponsive on the floor and called 911. They tried to resuscitate but had to pronounce him dead. It is suspected that it is a cardiac arrest, but the exact cause of death is not yet known. The police are said to have launched an investigation into the death.

It is known that Coolio had health problems and suffered from asthma. In 2016, he had another asthma attack during a performance.

“Coolio touched the world with his talent and will be sorely missed,” said a statement from his talent manager. “Thank you to everyone who has listened to his music worldwide and everyone who has been in touch regarding his passing.”

Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr. his breakthrough came in 1995 with the mega-hit Gangsta’s Paradise, the soundtrack to the film Dangerous Minds, for which he won a Grammy. The song spent three weeks at number one and became one of the most famous rap songs of all time.

He made music from about 1987. Coolio released several albums in the 90s and 00s and sold more than 17 million records. In addition to Gangsta’s Paradise, he scored hits with Fantastic Voyage (1994), 1,2,3,4 (Sumpin’ New) (1995) and CU When U Get There (1997). Furthermore, he was also an actor, producer and TV chef. He also made the music for the Nickelodeon show Kenan and Kel. Coolio leaves behind six children.
