German “Celebrity” claims to have been robbed on a beach in Thailand, Phang Nga police are investigating

During her trip to Thailand, Cathy Hummels, the wife of German football player Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund, is said to have been robbed. She told German media that she had been hit by a stranger and robbed on a beach in Thailand. Some reports echo her claims that she was robbed on the southern island of Phuket, but local police responded that they have investigated the claims and believe the incident did not take place on the island.

Subsequent investigations indicate that the incident occurred immediately north of Phuket in Phang Nga Province.

According to foreign media reports, Cathy said her experience in Thailand was “a nightmare”. She says she was in Phuket for three weeks to film the TV show Battle of Reality Stars. On the last day of her trip, she wanted to chill on the beach to say goodbye to Phuket. But she claims that someone hit her on the head.

According to reports, she begged the robber to stop beating and told him to take whatever he wanted and set her free. She says she only had a phone with her and the thief grabbed it and fled. She then ran to the hotel for safety. She made a report to the police and decided to take a plane to Dubai that evening to be with her child.

Thai media shared that they were trying to contact Phuket Provincial Police Station commander Sermpong Sirikong about the incident, but officers were initially not said to provide any information to reporters.

Meanwhile, police in Phang Nga, just north of Phuket, says the robbery happened on a Khok Kloi beach, not Phuket. They say they are actively trying to find the alleged robber.
