A German expatriate has suffered several injuries after he allegedly set his own house on fire and then injured himself with one in Pattaya the same afternoon.

Pattaya Police were notified of the incident around 1:00 PM yesterday, which occurred at a residential home in the Naklua community.

Police, emergency services and a local reporter arrived on the scene shortly after a first phone call was made by a concerned school teacher accompanying the German expat’s daughter.

Police Major Suchart Dussadee said: “A 14-year-old girl sent a text message to her school teacher online around noon stating that her father was nervous and about to commit suicide, stating that she was very concerned and not more knew what to do. The teacher enlisted us to provide help

“We arrived at the house to find a 68-year-old German man inside with his 14-year-old daughter (OB is withholding their names due to the sensitivity of the situation). We tried to convince the father to let his daughter leave the house as soon as he met us at the front door.”

The German man agreed to let the girl leave and visit her mother, who was not at home at the time of the incident. Then he walked back into the house with the announcement that he wanted to change and then come with us for a chat. We let him do that because he seemed calm at the time.

However, the German man locked the door of the house after he walked in and refused to respond to the knocking of the officers. He set fire to the front of the house before going out onto the balcony brandishing a knife. Despite the best efforts of the officers to calm the man, he injured himself, sustaining serious injuries and bleeding profusely as a result.

Firefighters were called to the scene as rescuers were forced into the home and took the German man, who was weak from blood loss at the time, to a local hospital for medical attention.

Some firefighters told “Jelle” that the German man was still brandishing the knife as they approached him, but became short of breath from the resulting smoke, they managed to overpower the man, master the knife and eventually take him to a local hospital. hospital transport.

The Banglamung Fire Department said it took more than an hour to bring the blaze under control due to a large amount of debris in the home. Major Suchart said several parts of the house suffered structural damage as a result of the fire.

As I type this account for you, the German man is in a local hospital under medical care and the daughter has been reunited with her mother. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time and has not released any statements as to the cause of the situation.
