Ghislaine Maxwell has been placed under suicide watch in Brooklyn Prison. As a result, she will probably submit a request to postpone her sentencing, her lawyer has said. Maxwell is suspected of helping Jeffrey Epstein recruit underage girls for sexual abuse.

In a letter to the judge, Maxwell’s attorney, Bobbi Sternheim, wrote that her client is no longer able to properly prepare for her sentencing as she has been placed in isolation at the Metropolitan Detention Center due to the suspected suicide risk, reports said. Reuters news agency.

According to Sternheim, Maxwell must wear a special “suicide smock” and her clothing, toothpaste, soap and legal papers have been taken. The lawyer also disputes Maxwell’s suicidality. According to her, she is supported in this by a psychologist who examined 60-year-old Maxwell.

Epstein, 66, committed suicide in his cell at Manhattan Prison in August 2019 while awaiting the abuse case against him. Maxwell was convicted on December 29 of recruiting four girls for Epstein between 1994 and 2004. She was sentenced to 30 to 55 years in prison.
