Krungthai Bank in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district had just over half a million BHT stolen when a gun-wielding man robbed them at gunpoint on Sunday evening.
At around 8:30 pm officials at the Lat Phrao Police Station were alerted to the armed robbery that happened on the third floor of The Mall Bang Kapi shopping centre.
It was reported that the staff had closed the bank at around 6 pm and as they were about to lock up and go home, a smallish build man wearing black clothes, a black cap and a face mask, aged between 27-28 had forced the staff to go back in the bank and open up the safe.
The robber then took around Bt600,000 in cash, put it in his fabric bag then made his way out of the bank.
Witnesses nearby reported to police that the robber had run toward the shopping malls rear exit. No assaults or injuries were reported.
Pol Maj-General Pornchai Khajornklin, chief of region 4 Metropolitan Police stated that just from the CCTV, it was not clear if the robber was wielding a real gun or not.
Pol Maj-General Pornchai Khajornklin also said that the robber was seen hanging around the bank for several hours before the robbery took place. This was probably to wait for an opportunity.
Police are tracking down the suspect and have deployed roadblocks on possible escape routes.
