Huge £630m Cruise Ship Is Basically A Small Town On Water

Must read

If the planet ever becomes a real life version of Waterworld then we know where we want our post-apocalyptic luxury home to be – the recently christened AIDAnova cruise ship.

The biggest ship to date from the Carnival Corporation’s AIDA Cruise brand is an absolute beast of a vessel that cost £630 million ($811m) to build – and it looks like it, too.

The AIDAnova can accommodate 6,600 passengers and is the fifth biggest vessel in the world, according to the Daily Mail.

At 1,106 feet long and boasting a ludicrous amount of amenities it’s basically a small town on water.

The gargantuan cruise liner features 20 decks, 17 restaurants, 23 bars, a casino, a water park, mini golfing green, rock climbing walls, and a state-of-the-art gym and spa.

Oh, but it doesn’t stop there, folks! The AIDAnova also has a lavish two-storey penthouse suite with floor-to-ceiling windows and a three deck high theatre space.

In words that are sure to make Westworld fans grimace with concern, the ship also boasts some robot staff members.

We only hope the human guests are nice and civil to them.

The AIDAnova was christened on Friday to 250,000 spectators alongside a performance from guest DJ David Guetta.

At the end of September she’ll be taken out on her first short trip to Eenshaven in the Netherlands for her final fit-out and sea trails.

However, the ship won’t officially set sail with guests on board until December 2018 when AIDAnova will offer seven-day trips around the Canary Islands.

So be sure to start frantically diving behind couch cushions to see what pennies we can all scrape together to buy a ticket, okay?

The interior of the ship is undoubtedly luxurious and something guests are unlikely to ever stop dreaming about, but the exterior of the ship is also incredibly memorable in its own way.

An exterior painting of a woman’s smiling face adorns the bow of the ship and is based on an idea from German artist, Feliks Büttner.

The painting reportedly took 50 litres of black, orange, and red paint to add the symbol to the ship – a fact sure to make some of us rest easy about the volume of make-up we use on our own mugs each day.

The striking image is applied to every AIDA ship. Including the two further cruise liners of this generation to be built by 2023 in the same place as the AIDAnova – the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg.

The ship definitely looks like a sweet ride (and then some) and we wish it some smooth sailing, fair winds and extravagant parties once it finally sets sail.
