Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the government of Thailand is moving forward to import Covid19 vaccines for children 3 years and older as soon as possible, provided there is evidence that they are efficient and safe. goods.
“Currently, the average vaccination rate in Thailand is 600,000 to 800,000 doses per day, and we aim to increase it to prevent the spread of the delta variant and to provide a booster shot for those who already have two shots got,” he said.
“Another important issue at the moment is the procurement of vaccines for children over the age of 12, as Covid19 can be contracted by all age groups.”
Anutin added that the Thailand Food and Drug Administration has currently approved two vaccines for children over the age of 12, namely Pfizer and Moderna, both of which are mRNA-type.
“There are reports that several manufacturers are developing vaccines for children as young as 3 years old,” he said. “The ministry is following this closely and will be willing to import such vaccines if there is evidence that they can effectively prevent Covid19 and are safe for children.”
