Janet Jackson will celebrate the 40th anniversary of her debut album next year, which she released at the age of 16. She does this with the intimate documentary JANET, with which she gives an exclusive look into her life as a world-famous singer.
“This is my story, told by me and not through anyone else’s eyes. This is the truth. Love it or hate it, this is me.”

Janet, now 55 years old, tells her life story in the documentary. The film has been in the making for five years. It was shot in the period around the death of her father Joe in June 2018 and also the death of brother Michael, her famous Super Bowl appearance with Justin Timberlake and motherhood. In addition, JANET contains never-before-seen archive footage featuring Michael and Tupac, among others.
The trailer also shows several family members and artist friends talking about their admiration for Janet. For example, Missy Elliott and Mariah Carey speak. “This is what a superstar looks like,” said Missy.
