Must read

The popular tourist destination of Koh Samui is set to reopen on July 1 after tourists have been kept away from the island for several months to contain Covid19 infections.

Ratchaporn Phoonsawas, chairman of Koh Samui’s tourism association, said about 50 per cent or 57,000 of Samui’s residents had been vaccinated, but 36,000 still need to be vaccinated to reach the required 70 per cent for herd immunity, he said.

According to the ‘Samui Sealed Route’ model, this implies that Koh Samui will be allowed to receive tourists again next month, there is of course a but. The tourists must be tested negative, and must then stay in a hotel for seven days. Now that is not such a punishment on Koh Samui as most hotels enjoy beautiful beaches, where the tourists are allowed to stay.

After seven days, after testing negative again, tourists are allowed to continue exploring the island and even island-hopping by sailing to Koh Pha-ngan and Koh Tao.
