LADIES EUROPEAN THAILAND CHAMPIONSHIP CELEBRATES ITS THIRD ANNIVERSARY

The Ladies European Thailand Championship will return to Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Pattaya, Chonburi for the third successive year from 20-23 June 2019 to expect the new history as celebration of its third edition anniversary.

Supported by the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), National Sports Development Fund (NSDF), Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club and organized by Wangson Image, the Ladies European Thailand Championship 2019, which offers a total prize money of 300,000 Euros (approximately Bt11 million) is sanctioned by Ladies European Tour (LET) together with Thailand Ladies Professional Golf Association (Thai LPGA).

A total of 126 players; 70 from the LET, 40 from the Thai LPGA and 16 from sponsor invites, will join the field to compete in a 72-hole stroke play format for four days with only top 60 players plus tie, after 36 holes, qualifying for the weekend rounds.

The press conference is held on Tuesday, 4 June 2019 at 11.00hrs, Seagull Room of Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club, which the representative of SAT, Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club, Tourism and Sports Office – Chonburi Province and THAI LPGA along with Thai players and media & press are participating the press conference.

In the past two editions, history has been made in this tournament which brings a great deal of good memories. In the inaugural Ladies European Thailand Championship, history was made when Atthaya Thitikul, as amateur, lifted up the trophy and became the youngest winner in a professional tournament at the age of 14 years, 4 months and 19 days. She also gained rapid worldwide recognition as the youngest LET winner.

In the following year, Kanyalak Preedasuttijit succeeded Atthaya by keeping the trophy on home soil after she claimed a one-stroke victory over South Korean amateur Selin Hyun. Once again, local golfers have proved that they are the force to be reckoned with.

As the host, Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club has played a significant role in hosting two successful editions of the LET Thailand Championship.

Sports Authority of Thailand together with National Sports Development Fund stated by Mr. Prarat Suwannamaytakorn – Director of Professional Sports Development Division about the support of SAT for the tournament that, “The Sports Authority of Thailand and the National Sports Development Fund are pleased to support this tournament for three successive years which responds to the government’s policy to support and promote sports development in all level. SAT considers golf as one of the country’s potential sports that can be developed to gain recognition locally, regionally and globally. The growing popularity of Thai sports will open channels to the tourism industry as well as to the economic opportunities.”

Mrs. Ampai Sakdanuguljit Sliwinski, Assistant Director of Chonburi Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports as the host province of the event says : “Chonburi is the perfect choice in organizing sport tournaments both in local or international level. This is to show that Chonburi contains full potential to support such events with the high facilities of accommodation, attractions and food which is foreigner’s favourite. This tournament will be another showcase to proof its potential.”

Along with LET, as the sanction body, THAI LPGA represented by Mrs. Varassuda Pisutsin, THAI LPGA Referee & Rules Committee says: “THAI LPGA is honoured to join hands with Ladies European Tour, which is one of the world’s leading women’s golf tours in this sanctioning – Ladies European Thailand Championship for three consecutive seasons. The tournament serves up as an opportunity for Thai LPGA players to compete and exchange experience with foreign competitors and at the same time to develop their skills. This is a great opportunity for Thais to prepare themselves for upper level of competition in the future just like the 2017 and 2018 champions already achieved.”

While Mr. Somsak Udompornsin, Marketing Director of Wangson Image, on behalf of promoter says: “As the organizer of the tournament, we are glad to stage this world class women’s golf tournament for the second year. We are also honoured to play a part in supporting local women’s golf. Furthermore, this tournament not only can boost local tourism in Pattaya and Chonburi and but also help promote Thailand to golf fans around the world through live broadcasting to over 20 million households in Thailand on TrueSport HD 3, as well as LET broadcasting platform.”

Even there is no representative of LET participate the press conference, but Ladies European Tour CEO – Mr. Mark Lichtenhein sent his message to greet all participants that: “We cannot wait to come back to Pattaya which is the venue of the great event of the last 2 years. I really hope that this event is helping the growth of golf in Thailand. Obviously we had two Thai winners in a row and maybe this year there will be another one. It’s great to see the event growing year by year. We want to do everything we can to help Thailand grow its natural talents. I invite everybody to come along this year to see the third edition of the Ladies European Thailand Championship.”

The third edition of Ladies European Thailand Championship is supported by Sports Authority of Thailand, National Sports Development Fund, Siam Commercial Bank, P.Overseas Steel PLC, Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club, Port Authority of Thailand and Singha Corporation.

Live Broadcasting of the Ladies European Thailand Championship can be followed on TrueSport HD3 on Saturday, 22 June and Sunday, 23 June between 13.00-16.00hrs and through LET broadcasting platform. Tickets, Bt100 per day per person, are available at the public entrance to the course. Those under 18 and over 60 are exempt for entry fee.
